FLAMINGO

Ice tool for iced waterfall climbing, mountaineering routes and mixed.
Weight with aluminium crown: 480g - with stainless steel crown: 540g.

COMPONENTS:
HANDLE
Monocoque in composite material. Fibre-reinforced epoxy matrix.
Fibres: one-directional in high-resistant carbon.
The choice of composite materials was motivated by the need to create a structural component that was both resistant and very light.
The advantages of using the chosen composite materials are:
- LIGHTER WEIGHT
- HIGHER RESISTANCE UNDER STRESS
- HIGHER RESISTANCE TO CORROSION
- BETTER THERMAL ISOLATION
The disadvantages of using the chosen composite materials are:
- INCREASE IN COST
- GREATER CARE AND MORE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR MAINTENANCE
The Flamingo ice tool handle was tested and approved as a type T technical tool at TUV offices in Munich.

BLADE
Made in ferrite steel and reclaimed micro-alloy (strengthened and reclaimed).
Hand-made.

SAFETY CROWN
Provide adequate protection for the head of the tool by avoiding contact between rock and the most used portion of the handle.
The area of transmission of stress from blade to handle is increased.
Never use the ice tool with safety crowns.
The transmission of stress and the fastening of the two crowns are made by containment plugs that are cemented and elastic. Do not replace or modify the fastening elements without contacting the manufacturer.
According to the model, the blade can be in Aluminium 6082, Aluminium 7075 ergal or stainless steel AISI 304. The different types of materials give the tool the desired weight.

LATERAL PROTETCION PLATES
These are fastened to the sides of the tool head and are used to avoid the concentration of tension surrounding the holes when tightening screws. They also protect the sides of the tool head and modulate the weight of the tool.

BANDS
Placed at the centre of the handle, it is used to fasten the part of the blade that protects the part of the handle that is exposed to shock.
It is also used to fasten the dragonne-fastening pin.

POINTS
In aluminium, it is used to protect the last part of the handle under the grip from shock.

CHECKS – POINTS TO BE INSPECTED
Before use, it is important to carry out a complete visual inspection of the ice tool.
If there are any cracks, pitting or alterations on tool components do not hesitate to contact the manufacturer or to replace the damaged component.
Check periodically that screws are tightened and replace them after considerably long periods of use.
Shocks to the tool can irreversibly damage the tool and it is therefore necessary to replace it. Periodically check the state of oxidisation of the blade. The steel is not stainless and is therefore subject to superficial oxidisation.
Protect after use and during long periods of disuse.
The point of the blade can be sharpened with cooled files and grindstones: the steel used for Climbubu blades is guaranteed to maintain its characteristics up to a temperature of 250°C. Be careful during maintenance never to exceed the temperature of 250°C.
Dry tooling puts greater stress on equipment. Therefore replace components under greater stress more frequently.
Do not reuse material already used in dry tooling when climbing on terrain with bad protection or for alpinism.
Dry tooling uses materials differently (the first part of the blade is predominantly used) and it is likely that the tool will experience unexpected breakages. We therefore suggest dry tooling on well-protected ground.

RESISTANCE LEVELS:
HANDLE
In accordance with UNI EN 13089 standards there are two resistance levels for the handles: T and B.
A type T tool must resist at 3.5KN for a length of 500mm.
A type B tool must resist at 2.5KN for a length of 500mm.
Climbubu ice tools are ergonomic and moulded and therefore do not have straight sections for 500mm in length. They have been tested in accordance with required standards on a length of 350mm with a load of 600 KN.

BLADE
Climbubu blades are type T for greater resistance to wear and tear and for versatility.
Type T blades are tested under stress in order to test the quality of the material and product as well as the state of the handle-blade connection.
A type T blade gives a higher guarantee when sharpening.
Do not modify the blade: normal filing excluded.
Warning: normal drill bits cannot puncture the steel of Climbubu tools. Do not make any modifications to normal perforations.
The holes of the blades used for screws are slightly threaded so as to guarantee coupling at the moment of assembly and are then bolted.
There are several ways to tighten a bolt (bolt = screw + nut). The following are in increasing order of tightening stress:
- LOOSE
- TIGHT
- CLAMPED
- BLOCKED
The bolts used in Climbubu ice tools are CLAMPED during assembly by the manufacturer. The tightening stress of a clamped bolt is calculated to be 75% of that of a blocked bolt. Do not force the bolt and divide between the screw part and the nut part.
Accidental unscrewing is prevented by using automatic-blocking nuts. When replacing nuts, use nuts of the same type or ask the manufacturer for the complete set (screw + nut).

USER TRAINING
Mountaineering is a potentially dangerous sport. Proper training is of primary importance and users must take responsibility and see that they do receive training.
This product must be used solely by trained and competent persons.
Only use this product with equipment appropriate to the situation and capable of guaranteeing correct absorption of fall energy. Use dynamic cords and safety brakes appropriate to the protection you have and that you have fixed during ascension.

CARE DURING TRANSPORT
Avoid damaging the equipment during transport. Avoid wear and tear by ù not using abrasive materials on the tool or other materials which could damage the tool.
Climbubu ice tools come complete with blade protection. Always use this protection when storing the tool or during transport. This will ensure that you do not harm yourself accidentally.

WARRANTY
This product has a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects and faulty materials.
The following is excluded from the warranty:
- Normal wear and tear
- Oxidisation of one or more parts
- Modifications or alterations
- Incorrect or inappropriate maintenance
- Corrosion due to the use of products that do not conform with or are incompatible with the materials used to make the tool
- Damage to the tool caused by shocks, accidents or accidental falls
- Inappropriate use of the tool

RESPONSABILITY
The manufacturer does not take responsibility for any direct, indirect or accidental damage caused by the use of this product or during the use of this product.
